Community Spotlight!
This is a new feature at Deco-Pages. Every month our designers will choose a layout from one of the members of our community and we will spotlight it here in the newsletter.

Deb Ammerman
This page was created by MaggieMae - I really love the photos on this page! The colors she worked with and the little squares of paper and leaves really are the perfect touch to show off these beautiful flowers! What a great addition to her scrapbook!

Jennifer Rassi-
This page was created by acountryrose - I really love the muted colors used and the bright colorful photo of the bird. I like how she used the gold elements to accent the page and perfect font for this page. This looks like a page you would find in a magazine or book. LINK: Full sized image

Created by roman, this page is my favorite out of the pages submitted for the font challenge I host. There are several things I like about roman's page. To begin with, I like the color blocking and the way some of the colors 'escape' the blocks. The colors, elements, and quote are fitting to the subject matter of autumn. I like the way the title looks like a spiral binding for her quote's journaling block. Lastly, I like pictures of trees, especially those in the fall, and this is a lovely one where the tree she has focused on is still green, but the trees behind have started turn thereby accentuating the greenness of the focal tree. Thank you roman for posting a great autumn layout for the October Font Challenge!

Marcee's Choice
I just love this page scrap-genie submitted for the October Holiday Challenge this month. The layered pictures focus on the challenge theme - change - by showing how the trees are changing and how additional Halloween decorations are in place this year. And, I really like the different blending modes used on the papers and elements.

I just love everything about this layout that 1iceprincess created... Such a beautiful tribute to her friend, and someone who definitely deserves the title of hero. And such amazing pictures showing off the beauty of our country.

From the desk of Jennifer Rassi…
Today is November 1st, and that means we're seeing the seasons changing all over the world. Some of you might be experiencing spring, while others are seeing fall. November brings me cooler weather, after a long, long hot summer. And the cooler weather means the wildflowers are dying off now and the leaves on the trees and vines are changing into beautiful shades of reds, yellows, and oranges mixed in with the greens. Here in N. Texas, we don't get all of those beautiful foliage photos like most states do, so we have to really look for the beauty in our fall. What does the month of November bring to you?
The month of November brings lots of things into my life. I start thinking of where my family is going to be celebrating Thanksgiving. And of course that means we have to think of food and who's bringing what dishes. Also I'm thinking about how quickly this year has passed by me and all of the highlights of the year. Some may be better then others, but they are what they are.
This Thanksgiving my family has some really good things to be thankful for. One of the most important is my Father-in-law. He's had problems with his health and we've spent a lot of time at the hospital with him. But after his triple by-pass surgery about 2 months ago, he's on the road to recovery. I think all too often we find ourselves so wrapped up in the holidays and our “problems” that we forget what we really have and to be thankful for it all. No matter how big or small, we need to stop and smell the roses and remember to be thankful for what we have. Tomorrow is not promised, so be sure to take time now to say thank you, and I love you to those that are so important to us.
On a lighter note, I encourage you to scrap things that you are thankful for this month. It can be as personal or un-personal as you'd like. I challenge you to take the time to add journaling, photos, and to come out of your comfort zone of scrapping. I hope that you all have a wonderful November and know that each and every one of us has something to be thankful for.
Happy Scrapping,
Jennifer Rassi

November is upon us, and there is so much to be thankful for. Here in the United States, no matter the outcome of the election, history will be made; I am going to have my 44th birthday this month and we will celebrate Thanksgiving Day! I cannot believe how quickly this year is going by... every year, time seems to go faster and faster! I wish it would slow down a little. Thank goodness for our scrapbooks and how we can capture moments of our lives, to look back on later and remember!
On a recent trip to Long Island, New York, I was lucky enough to be there on my Great-Aunt Mary's 105th Birthday! I wish that I lived close enough to this lovely lady to spend serious time with her. I would love to hear the stories she has to tell of her life.
I think that scrapbooking with the elderly would be a very rewarding experience. Do you have a senior in your life that loves to tell you the stories of their lives? Have you taken the time to save your memories of times spent with them? I was lucky enough to live close to my grandfather's sister Julia. My great-aunt Julia and I spent so much time together before she passed away. We did crafts together, and would sit and talk for hours about family, oh... and eat! Aunt Julia would always make me a wonderful lunch, she would make me the most wonderful spaghetti with clam sauce! These were my pre-scrapbooking days, so unfortunately I did not keep a camera handy, now, how I wish I had. But Aunt Julia has been written about on pages in my scrapbook, and on my recent trip to New York, I did borrow some photos from my aunt that Aunt Julia appears in, which I will be sharing with you as soon as I have time to scan them in!
My challenge to you this month is to introduce Digital Scrapbooking to an elderly special person in your life. Show them just how easy it is to save those precious memories, or you might want to create a scrapbook page to give to them... they will love it, and you for taking the time!

If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, "thank you," that would suffice. ~Meister Eckhart
Thanksgiving Day is a jewel, to set in the hearts of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day, and leave out the gratitude. ~E.P. Powell
As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. ~John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Thanksgiving, after all, is a word of action. ~W.J. Cameron
Ah! on Thanksgiving day....
When the care-wearied man seeks his mother once more,
And the worn matron smiles where the girl smiled before.
What moistens the lips and what brightens the eye?
What calls back the past, like the rich pumpkin pie?
~John Greenleaf Whittier
Thanksgiving comes to us out of the prehistoric dimness, universal to all ages and all faiths. At whatever straws we must grasp, there is always a time for gratitude and new beginnings. ~J. Robert Moskin
We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures. ~Thornton Wilder
Thanksgiving is the holiday of peace, the celebration of work and the simple life... a true folk-festival that speaks the poetry of the turn of the seasons, the beauty of seedtime and harvest, the ripe product of the year - and the deep, deep connection of all these things with God. ~Ray Stannard Baker (David Grayson)
Forever on Thanksgiving Day
The heart will find the pathway home.
~Wilbur D. Nesbit
Nothing is more honorable than a grateful heart. ~Seneca
The funny thing about Thanksgiving, or any huge meal, is that you spend 12 hours shopping for it and then chopping and cooking and braising and blanching. Then it takes 20 minutes to eat it and everybody sort of sits around in a food coma, and then it takes four hours to clean it up. ~Ted Allen

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!

But whether we have less or more,
Always thank we God therefor.
~Author Unknown
Thanksgiving dinners take eighteen hours to prepare. They are consumed in twelve minutes. Half-times take twelve minutes. This is not coincidence. ~Erma Bombeck

To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch Heaven. ~ Johannes A. Gaertner

Retro
Designs' A New Dawn

16 backgrounds 12 x 12
19 misc. embellishments
11 frames
3 brads
3 vintage keepsake cards
4 tags
2 ornate pins
4 jewelled staples
62 items
This ornate art nouveau influenced kit can either be used by itself or in combination with the original Dawn kit as the colour scheme is the same, mainly various shades of aqua blue with a hint of green and some gold for a touch of luxury. As with most of my kits, there are some authentic art nouveau trinkets included such as a jewelled dragonfly, a sequined flower and a gem encrusted heart. The nostalgic keepsake cards are the kind that Victorian ladies used to embellish their scrapbooks. The background papers echo the changing seasons reflected in the sky and range from the fresh turquoise blue of springtime to the more melancholy darker blue of winter. A New Dawn complements old sepia photos beautifully but is also suitable for more modern pages.
